The Lozarithm Lens

By Lozarithm

Berhill's Farm, Calne (Sunday 17th January 2016)

Temperatures dropped to -3C overnight but there was some blue sky so I went for a short walk down to the river at Berhill's Farm. I also wanted to try out a new lens. It's a tilt shift lens but I wanted to get familiar with its normal optics before I began discovering its special tricks.

The weir is all that's left of a former mill, so a suitable image for Derelict Sunday.

The lens is a 24mm prime with a large front element, and in shooting side on to the sun I have caught some sunspots in this image, and in a couple of the others there are rainbow coloured strips and blobs that are actually rather intrusive. Whether this will be an ongoing issue with the lens or caused by exceptional light conditions time will tell. I was just glad to find some sunlight at last.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
David Bowie - The Jean Genie (recorded live, Top Of The Pops, 3rd January 1973)
I thought my Bowie week had come to a close but on Sunday Cerys played this superb recently-discovered live performance by Bowie and the Spiders From Mars, broadcast only once at the time, on 4th January 1973.  It was then wiped by the BBC so the tape could be re-used - common practice at the time. Luckily it came to light recently that the cameraman had saved his own copy of the tape, and it got a re-broadcast on Top Of The Pops 2 in December 2011.
