Come dine with me? AM#2
The dining table is one of the largest pieces of furniture that the Ards Man has made, apart from the bed, I suppose.
You can see that the top is made from eight planks of oak that he cut and planed and then joined together, topping and tailing with 'breadboard' ends.
The table is really solid and heavy; it had to be assembled in situ as otherwise we couldn't have carried it in to the dining room! It will sit 10 comfortably and 12 with a squeeze, with two chairs at each end.
The AM has just finished sanding and re-oiling the surface, with just a light touch over the legs, so it looks good as new! The top is made from American oak and the bottom/legs from European oak. The base was made first, but then it turned out that European oak was very difficult to source. Most of the furniture the AM has made since this table has been created using American oak.
Not quite a Tiny Tuesday blip!
I've included a shot from a different angle in the extras. Check out yesterday's blip of the bed to see the first in this series :)
