Corner of the cobbler's house

I spent this evening with some friends whose long garden backs onto an old quarry. They discovered a small cobbler's house tucked away at the bottom of the garden which, to me, resembles the gingerbread house in Hansel and Gretel, especially as there are tall trees towering over it so that it appears to be in a forest. They have repaired the little house, insulated it, and installed huge glass doors looking out onto their lush green garden, and, for the summer, have moved their kitchen table into it. So, while the rain poured outside, we we ate dinner, gathered round the table, feeling a long way away from the rest of the world. I loved their simple decor. It was a good place to be at the end of a hard and difficult week: comfortable, warm, happy, with good friends, and exceptionally well fed and watered.
