Oaxaca coast

This is the view from our porch of the beach at San Agustinillo, a village on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca. In distance, it is only about 150 miles from the city of Oaxaca, but the narrow highway that follows the contours of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountain range for most of this distance, requires 6-8 hours of driving time. The time probably depends on the foolhardiness of the driver, as the road is constant S and U curves which make speed and passing bad ideas.
We have avoided going on the bus/vans because of horror stories of people getting sick (although reportedly this road is not nearly as bad as the one that goes direct to Puerto Escondido) Some friends drove their truck to Oaxaca this year and invited us to go to the beach with them for a few days. What a welcome sight after the long drive!
The extra photo is of a colorful hammock vendor who carried her wares on her head and flung over her shoulders.
