Morning at Loch of Skaill
I caught the bus to Skara Brae and walked along the loch looking for any of the unusuall birds that have turned up there- 3 green-winged teal, a ring-necked duck and a black-necked grebe. I walked off the road a little onto a track rising to the fields and a short-eared owl rose and flew off over the still waters of the loch. I set up my little scope and was fortunate enough to soon locate the black-necked grebe. There were a few Slavonian grebes too but the b-ng was definite- it has a quiff! Lots of other birds about- whooper swans, greylag and barnacle geese, pochard, etc.
