Burns Cottage

Last year we took out a year's membership of the National Trust for Scotland, mainly because we were going on holiday to Northumberland and wanted to visit several Trust properties (and membership in Scotland entitles you to free use in England and many other countries).  We had not been members for several years, and we decided to visit some places over the year while we had membership.

We have done rather well for our money.  And today we travelled through the falling snow to Alloway and visited  The Robert Burns Museum and Centre.  Surprisingly for such a day it was quite busy, perhaps because it is near his birth date.  Anyway we were impressed by the Centre, refurbished some years ago, which has a lot of artefacts of Burns, and a lot of exhibits which were child friendly too!

After the visit to the museum we went over to Burns Cottage, his birthplace.   It has not changed at all, but I am always thankful for my modern way of living when I see how they lived.  Was not sure why the cottage was tied with red ribbon, but can only presume this is for his birthday!

Drove home in thickening snow, we were a little bit worried that the Fenwick Moor might be difficult but all was well.
