Crayfish for supper

Left Hanmer Springs and drove up the east coast towards Kaikoura where we stopped for a very fine coffee and then carried on. Nins Bin in photo sells hot crayfish with garlic butter or cold with lemon mayo - both ways are very toothsome!

Just 5 minutes on from Nins we stopped to look at all the seals lolling about on the rocks and another 100 metres up the road all the baby seals. A strong and thriving colony.

The number 1 highway is a beautiful one, with astonishing views. We stopped to eat lunch and watch a truck that had caught fire being put out by a helicopter which was collecting up huge buckets of water from the sea and then tipping on the flames - out in no time but a complete write off
