Straight down the barrel

I had heard that there were 2 short eared owls nearby and today had the chance to leave work at 3.30 and get over there.

It had been a lovely cloudless day but as I drove I watched cloud build on the horizon and the low sun fall below it. The light was falling rapidly and I had about 30 minutes to find this owl. Little hope I thought but rushed on regardless. Ran out of the car and saw 3 photographers in the distance. Just as I got up there he appeared !! The other guys had spotted him a few hours earlier. Well sometimes you have to strike lucky.

All of the shots are grainy at ISO 6400 but at least I got something and returned home with a big grin on my face.
