The Thames at Rotherhithe

Today, in very chilling weather, we spent a few hours visiting Rotherhithe. It has been regenerated and is now a very desirable place to live on the River Thames
It is a very historical part of London, and in 1620 the Pilgrim Fathers departed from Rotherhithe (not Plymouth as often stated) on the Mayflower to America.
The very first river tunnel was built here by Mark Brunel, father of the very famous engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and we visited the little museum in the original Engine House.
Rotherhithe has a strong Scandinavian connection and there are Finish, Swedish, Norwegian  and Danish churches.
What a fascinating place,  and one probably overlooked by most tourists.
What's more, there are some great pubs overlooking the river for a bite to eat and a pint to drink.
