Rocking in the Free World
Chuck Deely, born as Charles Edward Deely the Third in Detroit 1951, is probably the most famous gitarist from The Hague and imagine it's 'The Beattown' of the Netherlands and origine of many famous artists like The Golden Earring (Radar Love), Shocking Blue (Venus), Anouk, Kane, Direct and many, many others. This urban legend of The Hague actually defeated Kane, The Golden Earring and Anouk by winning The Hague Pop Prize in 2009.
Chuck has had a life full of set backs such as two failed marriages, illness, heroin, rehab, but even had to suffer more lately.
He had to relocate his private stage in the Central Station due to the construction noise of the stations renovation to a less lucaritive temporary street stage. Then the City Council issued a law involving street performers ban hoping to stop the tsunami of Romanian 'musician' beggers, but made Chuck jobless in the process.
Due to a lot of protests from the people and even unexpected backing support of the Residence Orchestra he is granted the unique status of being 'the ONLY busker in this city who is allowed to play wherever he lays his guitar'
There is no one in the Hague that never heard this long grey haired rockstar play his CSN&Y, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan or any other famous riff. If you ever visit the Hague as tourist you just might be lucky enough to find him on the Grote Markt shopping street neat the Bijenkorf Warehouse.
If so, don't forget to tip him so he can pay his rent!
Keep on Rocking in the Free World!
