Lavender
Although lavender might be associated with old, powdered ladies I'm rather fond of it. There is something quite pleasing about the simplicity of a healthy lavender bush in full flower.
Considered the queen of herbs, the name of lavender comes from the Latin 'lavare' which means 'to wash'. The Romans bathed in lavender water and Cleopatra used lavender oil to seduce Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony.
Lavender is attributed with a wide range of uses, a tonic for nerves popularised by Queen Victoria, it also has antiseptic, disinfectatnt and healing properties. Planted for good luck, it also keeps away witches and bride beaters! A must for every garden...
"As Rosemary is to the spirit, so Lavender is to the soul."
