It all ended with a loud scream

A couple of days ago I wished for a big bug to photograph and it flew in today, landing between the rocks. I got a cup and a plate from our cottage and Rob caught it for me.

To enable easier shooting we put it in the fridge to cool down, it does not harm the insect and just slows it down for a short while.

Suitably cooled, I took it outside on an appropriate backdrop and started shooting. It didn't take long before the bug started to move itself and its head.

I got to shoot it from many angles and then very suddenly it started its engine and lifted to fly away. It was quite a scary moment as it makes quite a sudden and loud noise when it flies - I'm fine with insects as long as they are not climbing on me.

About this bug: Cetonia aurata, known as the rose chafer, or more rarely as the green rose chafer, is a beetle, 20 mm (¾ in) long, that has metallic green coloration (but can be bronze, copper, violet, blue/black or grey) with a distinct V shaped scutellum, the small triangular area between the wing cases just below the thorax, and having several other irregular small white lines and marks. The underside is a coppery colour.
