Give way
The remainder of the drive along the Desert Road was stunning - crystal clear blue skies made a great backdrop to the snow-capped volcanic plateau. Met another photographer along the way when we both 'saw' the same shot at around the same time. He and his wife were visiting from England so the scenery must have been very alien and jaw-droppingly inspiring for him (as it was for me too, despite familiarity with it).
Continued the drive south heading for the ferry at midday-ish tomorrow. Didn't quite manage to co-ordinate a coffee-catch-up with J in Palmerston North so added a small detour to the east to see the wind farm. Another quite unique and stunning area, although my timing was poor and I didn't manage to get the views I had hoped for. C'est la vie.
On then to the day's stopping spot at Otaki where the sunset over Kapiti Island made a serene and appropriate end to what has been a lovely holiday.
