End of an era

This is Mr Johnson from Johnsons Grocery Shop. Supplying all things English!
After nearly 60 years in the trade he is closing the shop.
A bit of an icon in Christchurch , both him, his dad and the shop.

I remember when I had first arrived in Christchurch 20 years ago going to the original shop that was in Colombo St and loving the old fashioned way it was run, wooden ladders along the high walls to get to the top shelves , brown paper bags and the total amount purchased added up by pencil on paper!

Ella and I went in today for the last time , and there were lots of others in the store wishing him well for his future .
