Groundsel

I found this little Groundsel Senecio vulgaris plant in one of my planters in the front garden this afternoon. I was going to say how amazed I was it had a seed head on it in January, but when I looked it up on the web I realised it both flowers and sets seed all year round! - Bother!!
Common Groundsel is an abundant weed, and is classified as a 'winter annual'. The plant can be found flowering year round, but is generally more prolific in the spring and early summer, dying off in the summer heat. Seedlings take a mere 6 weeks to reach maturity and produce more seedlings.Related to ragwort it is also toxic to wildlife although reports of poisonings are few.
Such a lot of interesting facts for such a small and common little plant!
