Built to last
This is all that remains of a bridge which carried the Plymouth to Yealmpton railway over the River Yealm. Completed for the opening of this Branch Line in 1898, it outlasted the railway which eventually closed in 1960.There are 3 solid buttresses still apparently in good condition despite their proximity to the river which can be fast flowing and prone to flooding as the swept clean path indicates.
