Tiny Tuesday 33 :: TT33 :: A Tiny Homage
This is not to do with a Tiny Rifle Butt or even the Tiny part of the script from the film, The Virgin Soldiers. It is to do with the 'extra' who appears between the last two lines of this page.
The scene is an army mess hall c.1950 in Malaysia where the main characters are getting drunk. In truth October 1968 in the then closed Pinewood Hospital, Crowthorne, Berkshire.
In the film Brigg actually says he has had 6 or 8 drinks (script change or boasting) and as he finishes his lines a soldier is carried/hand-handled behind them out from behind the bar.
The soldier only appears for about 2 seconds. It was his first feature film role (he'd been in two smaller productions prior) and the following year he hit the big time as David Bowie.
So this is my Tiny homage to the late, great Bowie.
The script belonged to my late father who was technical adviser on the film. Like Bowie he didn't get a credit.
I remember visiting the set at Pinewood Hospital and meeting some of the now famous stars. Apart from seeing all the military side of things were as correct as possible he also taught the main characters drill. Wayne Sleep found it hard to march without adding ballet steps!
You can see Bowie's Tiny acting role here on YouTube. Don't blink... ;o)
PS. I would like to thanks everyone who said such kind things about my daughter's embroidery I used for yesterday's Mono Monday. ;o)
