Smoke

Smoky tendrils lift burning embers into an alien sky.  Patterns formed on hot-rolled steel plate after the recent rains.  The hot-rolled metal has a microscopic layer of black scale and a film of oil on its surface.  Our acid rain first washes off some of the oil, then begins to etch into the scale and finally, causes the steel underneath to rust, forming these beautiful patterns in the process.
