At last

For many months I have been searching the tree canopies for a sight of the Riroriro (the Grey Warbler, Gerygone ibata). Every time I thought that I had seen one, either I had no photo to confirm it, or I had a photo of a Tauhou (Silvereye). Then I found that what I had thought was the call of the riroriro, was actually the chaffinch. So I was often looking in the wrong place.

Tonight, I saw some small fast birds which quite clearly were Tauhou. They were in the Mahoe feeding on the berries. I spotted this wee bird heading off into a Whauwhaupaku; a native tree known as Five-finger or Pseudopanax arboreus. I had only one clear shot, and was fortunately able to get the focus good enough that I am reasonably confident in identifying this as a Riroriro.
