Egg Hill Church in January
I took notice of some fog rolling in along the valley this afternoon so I decided to take a drive up to the old Egg Hill Church near Potters Mills to see if I could catch some eerie shots. This church is the scene of a popular urban legend that involves a minister murdering his entire congregation by various methods. This story is generally believed to be untrue though as the structure was built in 1860 yet no newspaper account exists of this sordid tale.
As it turns out there wasn't any fog lurking round the church this day, but in any case, I think it is a very picturesque site and since I have a strong penchant for exploring abandoned places, it is one of my new favorite areas to photograph. Even the graveyard is dramatically awesome so I have included an "extra photo" of it today as well.
...And travellers, now, within that valley,
Through the red-litten windows see
Vast forms that move fantastically
To a discordant melody;
While, like a ghastly rapid river,
Through the pale door
A hideous throng rush out forever,
And laugh—but smile no more.
