The bridge at Montagut

To the gate way to the Alt Garrotxa to pick up the littlest from his 10 days of adventure camping.

This bridge, Pont de Llierca, near Montagut, rises majestically from the walls of the gorge of the river Llierca, it was part of the old packhorse way from France.

Unlike most of the areas rivers this pool always seems to retain some water, though the fish must feel a little overcrowded at the height of summer.

The parapet is only about 80cms high, so it is eyes fixed ahead and walk smartly for me, I loath heights. Since it reaches about 25 m above the river it is a dizzying vista.

Just a little further on is the hamlet of Sadernes, where the Ermita de Sta Cecilia with its small rectoria stands guard above the path that follows the river up to Basagorda eventually. Lovely walking country and the gorges are much used for rock climbing practice by those of a stronger stomach than I.
