Bring Me Sunshine

After some decidedly indifferent weather at the start of my mini-break in Kandersteg, Switzerland, the last day (just a half day) brought some sunshine. A four hour walk at Sunnbuhl provided plenty of opportunities to fill the remaining space on my memory card.

Pulsatilla alpina ssp alpina, the Alpine Pasque Flower, is an iconic alpine plant. Sumptuous, pure white, bowl shaped flowers are followed by fantastic feathery seedheads which were much in evidence. Where the snow had lain late I found a few still in flower.

As I walked I was twice aware of a swallowtail butterfly fluttering by. They are very active in the sunshine, rarely still for long. I soon accepted that I would not get a photograph. In a rare moment of serendipity, one alighted on the path in front of me as I completed the walk. The resulting picture and others from the day are posted in an album here.
