Disaster Averted

Over Christmas I put a candle (Waitrose - so no rubbish) in the downstairs WC. And very nice it was too. But apparently I omitted to "trim the wick" (no idea at the time that this was essential practice) and the consequence was that the walls and ceiling got covered in a horrid black greasy gloop. I tried various cleaners and the only one that came close to helping was sugar soap. The only downside of this was that it took the paint off too. So today my friend Alan came over an gave the room a couple of coats of emulsion and satinwood on the woodwork. It looks about a million % better.
