Watermelon.....
We are new to growing veggies and it's difficult when all the seed packets advice is for cooler climates than ours. So we have experimented and planted out in Feb when it was still cool. Most of the veggies have been extremely small. The most successful were the beetroots. The melon may look large but it was tiny (about the size of a rugby ball) and we had to pick it as it was cooking on the plant! But it wasn't really mature. The peppers ended up smaller than peas and rotted from the inside. The onions just gave up and died, but at least most things appeared even if like the cucumbers some never bore any fruit. We will try planting in November next time to take advantage of the cooler weather. The soil doesn't help as there isn't any really. just sand. Although we did add compost to the sand and fed. We also don't have many bees and guess that might make a difference too. It was fun to experiment though.
