St Peter the Apostle & St John the Baptist, Barnsl
Driving through to football today in Barnsley I spotted this church from the car. We pass it to all games so decided it Might be time to blip it. Barnsley FC were originally called Barnsley sT Peter's so not sure if this was an original connection. Anyway some details of the church.
St Peter's is of the Anglo-Catholic tradition and is imbued with a sense of family, welcome and support.
Christians have worshipped on this site since 1872, and we invite you to share in fellowship and prayer with us.
Very much at the heart of the community, the church was built as a result of penny contributions from the local mining fraternity. That is the context for its past, its present and its future.
Not just here for baptisms (christenings), weddings and funerals, St Peter's also responds to what local society asks and needs. As part of this outreach, many local groups use the church facilities, including 'The Rock' (a social gathering for those with mental health problems), a new Parent & Toddler initiative, as well as dance groups.
My back is improving and have felt a little better today so hopeful that the improvement will now continue.
