A Dry Day

0.6C bright and sunny all morning then light cloud cover through the afternoon. Light breeze then zephyr.

The rain finally gave up before midnight last night and it has been a relief to have a dry day. There are news reports of flooding in lots of places including one or two local, although none serious. The water has stopped running off the field across the road from our house and onto the road.

Maeve the Deerhound and I went for a walk after lunch. Van Morrison on the Nano (Avalon Sunset and Hymns to the Silence I). We went up to the church then continued out along the country road to Scryne. Not far after the church the country road slopes down to a little valley where the Craigmill burn runs and there is a derelict cottage just before the road rises up again to Craigmill farm. The burn was running fast and was very full. The flat areas next to the burn were soaking and I wouldn't be surprised if the burn had flooded there yesterday. The high bank about 50 metres before the cottage has given way and there has been a small landslide.

The road is higher than the area next to the burn and was clear so we walked up the hill to Craigmill farm, turned right and went down the track to the shore road. The track was mostly dry and frozen in places.

We walked along the cycle path and went over the road bridge over the railway and down to the beach at Westhaven. The tide had turned about an hour before we arrived and was starting to go out so there were four or five metres of beach visible. The sea was much calmer out beyond the rocks but plenty of waves were crashing in over the rocks towards the beach. We went down onto the sand today to get a shot from sea level. We stayed for a few minutes since it wasn't windy and it was much lighter than recent days, then we crossed back over the road bridge and carried on round in a long loop heading into Carnoustie and up the main road before turning along for home.
