Unusual visitors

Birds returned en masse to the garden today, plenty of tits, a dozen chaffinches, robins ,blackbirds and in the woods beyond the garden a female great spotted woodpecker plus a male bullfinch. (seen close together briefly) While walking sometime later I spotted a cormorant  surfing down the fast flowing river.Maybe the  impending cold snap has triggered this behaviour.
