Thistle Down

Fire

Fire is a powerful,
Force on the earth.
It can be mastered,
And it does have worth.

It can bringeth,
Man to destruction.
On life it has,
Reach in its suction.

It riseth like a wild thing,
If the reigns are let loose.
But with gentle handling,
There riseth a truce.

Flash-backs it has,
It pondereth on the hill.
Like changing it's mind,
And so stubborn of will.

So gallant...in its going,
It crashes and dashes.
And when it is conquered,
It lays down in ashes.

Relinquishing its flame,
That are brightly illumed.
God roareth his commandments,
And all wrath is consumed.
