Fell Walking in the Swedish Winter

There wasn't enough snow to ski so we went for a walk. Walking (as against X-country skiing) in the mountains in winter is a rather unusual experience in Sweden! Jan is leaning on a marker pole showing one of the winter paths, used by skiers and snowmobiles. They are so high because sometimes the snow is very deep, but not yet, not here!
Later I went out and did a 10 km walk, across the fell to a traditional summer farm and back by another path.
The little snow was enough to preserve tracks so I could see hares, reindeer, fox, mice, mountain grouse and a motorbike had all been wandering about. I could also hear a reindeer bell at times. I guess the motorbike was one of the local Sami who had been out checking the reindeer.
Minus 8° C so the little snow that is around isn’t going anywhere. We just have to hope more arrives…
We had a great New Year's meal with our friends in the cabin. Our part was the slow-cooked reindeer stew and wine to go with it. We finished off with the traditional after midnight film, in this case it was a great French film "The Intouchables".
