The Disconsolate Dandy

Meet the Disconsolate Dandy. We had a great experience this weekend. Edinburgh is becoming a bit of a centre for the pop up restaurant and there is a very talented lady called Aoife who seems to be a leading light.

She started a home supper club, then Burgher Burger and now Jelly and Gin. We were lucky enough to get tickets for the first J&G event.

We didn't know much about it. Just that we would get picked up at 6pm in town and dropped off around midnight. We knew there would be food and wine and an interesting venue but nothing more.

We were driven about an hr from Edinburgh to a country pile near Selkirk called The Hainings. It has obviously been very grand in its day and now needs some tender loving care. We were lucky that the weather held long enough for fizz and canapés on the terrace. Dinner was great - cooked by Ed and Dale from The gardeners cottage ( new restaurant that opens on 7th July. Can't wait to try it.

And the disconsolate dandy - this is him. A former owner of the house who looked down on us throughout dinner.

Was a real experience for us all. Quirky and not your run of the mill night out at all.

Oh and you may see us on the BBC some time. We were filmed for historical houses that is coming to BBC 2 soon.
