Wet
I ran today and elected to venture over the fields. I was expecting mud.
I ran through brown mud, black mud, orange mud, mud with leaves in, mud with gravel, mud with clay, and plenty other muddy concoctions.
But mostly I ran through water. Even fields that are usually well drained were ankle deep in water. I returned with surprisingly clean shoes.
For sure, it was slow progress, driving rain didn't help much, neither did the hilly route.
But, a strange thing happened, probably after an hour or so: the more fatigued and generally uncomfortable I got, the more fun it became. I even felt the need to extend the route. What started as a battle against the elements, turned into a kind of celebration that they exist.
After more than 20 years, running still throws some surprises.
The picture wasn't taken during the run (I don't have an underwater housing). After a clean up and feed, I went for a late afternoon walk with the little man and his lovely mum. Weather had calmed, but still plenty of water.
