Scottish sunshine

Making the most of the full sun forecast, we set off this morning in heavy cloud. As we approached the Old Man of Storr, the drizzle began so we headed for our new found coffee shop in the hope of the weather improving.

It did. Not enormously but we couldn't wait too long as the 60mph gusts were on there way in this afternoon.

Eleven years and I'd forgotten the atmosphere that the Old Man of Storr evokes. There were some beautiful rays of light in the distance but the mist swirled pretty permanently where we were.

We loved it!

Hoping to do a circuit to the top of the ridge, we carried on to a low col. As we rounded the bend, the gusts picked up out of nowhere and there was no way we were heading up to the cliff tops. Instead, we took a slow walk back exploring more of the nooks and crannies and towering pinnacles. It's some place.

We headed home for lunch and this afternoon went for a drive to Uig, not so secretly hoping to spot a sea eagle. But it's just too windy. Massively windy.

We toured around the top of Trotternish on the way home and spotted some amazing cuttlefish cloud formations; blue sky and beautiful wispy shapes. I got out of the car to take a photo and the force of the wind took my breath away.

We've had dinner early and watched the last three episodes of Last Tango in Halifax which we've thoroughly enjoyed and since, happened across a black and white programme about Skye.

Hunkered down now waiting for the next storm to arrive. It's howling outside.

The lights are flickering. The torch is out.
