Hand of Fatima

What a day! Incessant rain. I didn't even try to go out although Len went swimming and then to the NHS WalkIn Centre in Loughborough, since he has a pain in his leg.

He was absent for a while. A bit sheepish on his return. 2 paracetamols 4 times a day for the next few days, and go to the doctor if the pain doesn't go away.

I thought I'd try using flash to take this photo of a Hand of Fatima ornament on our Christmas tree. I wasn't altogether satisfied but you can see the detail. Backlighting from the lights on the tree didn't work.

The Hand of Fatima (or Hamsa) is a powerful talisman in Morocco and is supposed to protect you from harm. Fatima was the daughter of Mohamed, (PBUH), and tended his wounds after battle. She died not long after him. Her husband Ali and sons Hasan and Hussein were subsequently killed.

The symbol is widely seen as a protection against the 'evil eye.'
