Still Enjouing Ornaments

I realized today, I sat in a chair beside the Christmas tree several times in the last two weeks and enjoyed these ornaments more than others.  The cross in the foreground and the snowflake on the back left are made from paper.  I don't remember the name of the craft given by the lady from whom we bought them at a bazaar a few years ago.  The one with the little boy was made by him, and there are several others that were crafted by grandchildren over the years.  The Santa on the right is pewter. Soon all will be put away for anther year, although we often leave our tree up until "Old Christmas" on January 6.  Of course that's also the day of Epiphany in the Christian calendar.  Old Christmas is still celebrated in parts of the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  They are the barrier islands off the north and central coast of NC and include Roanoke Island.  On July 22, 1587, John White landed on Roanoke Island with 120 men, women, and children. As governor, White hoped to establish the first permanent English settlement in the New World by developing a self-sufficient economy and agriculture. On August 18, 1587, the first English Christian was born: Virginia Dare.
