I was born and educated in London (UK) and for twenty years I worked alongside architects there. My role was to extract a detailed end-user brief from clients for whom we were designing new HQ premises. Typically the clients had motivational mottoes on their office walls akin to “He who has the most toys at the end is the winner”. If ever I were to suggest that perhaps not everything might be possible, I could expect a response along the lines of “Shall we compare salaries to see which of us is more important?”

I loved my job! The clients were vile beyond belief and getting close enough to them to find out what they really cared about was as fascinating as watching a pit of writhing snakes.

Eventually it became trendy for premises that hosted business-social gatherings to employ a woman in the women's lavatory. Her role was to offer soap and towels to female guests and invariably she was black-skinned. For me this was a step beyond obscene, I lost all desire to work with or for anyone who found this acceptable and a short while later we both gave up our jobs to become smallholders on a tiny Greek Island.

Here there are no galleries, no cinemas, no theatres, no concert halls, no radio plays and precious little in the way of stimulating conversation. I do not regret our move, I am proud that we live so lightly on this fragile planet, but I do miss a lively exchange of ideas.

Blip connects me to a world of kind, thoughtful, passionate people and it thrills me to have the opportunity to share their passions. Through Blip I am introduced to artists, poets, musicians, authors, painters, sculptors, activists and any number of thinkers, opinions and events I wouldn't otherwise hear about in my little backwater. There are also some very, very funny people here too. Blip helps me to be the best person I can be. I love you! This illustrates me with and without Blip.
