Ammo

I mentioned yesterday that the storms have exposed some new find areas on the beach in the Bay. Yesterday I uncovered a cache of old machine gun bullets and lead 'gallery rounds' - lead bullets for firing ranges that are not equipped to deal with high velocity munitions.

I went back today after one high tide and I found nothing. The shingle and gravel has moved back over the find site.

See here for photos of the Lanzarote pre- and post-war.

A couple who used to fish in the bay part-time (he worked for BT and she was a teacher) said there used to be 'loads of brass and bullets' in this corner of the Bay.

The whole Bay was thoroughly militarised during the IIWW and the fancy beach front houses - Adcock Villas -  and the hotel - the Lanzarote -  became a street-to-street battle training ground for the Marines based in Deal.

The story goes that two German spies were discovered in our house and sent off to Pentonville for execution.
