A combination of circumstance and weather has meant that we have not been as active this Christmas as we like to be.

But  a better morning gave us an opportunity for a walk. This scene is not extraordinary at all, but the bright calmness depicted does seem unusual for this December. And it was a good walk.

A little further on from this scene is the location of the "Dutton Breach": on 26th September 2012 (there is a plaque) the canal breached after heavy rain, and had to be closed. There was an appeal for funding, and a major engineering process began which culminated in the re-opening of the canal in May 2013. I have seen some shocking photos of the recent damage to the Rochdale canal, which looks like a much bigger repair job.
