Good work, 2015!
In 2015 I struck a few things from my bucket list: releasing baby turtles into the wild, working for a conservation charity, seeing a blue whale, becoming an advanced scuba diver, photographing a wild leopard on safari, seeing bioluminescence in the ocean and staying in a treehouse. These were just the highest highlights of an incredible year filled with adventures shared with some of my favourite people in the world. Through 4 countries, on planes, trains, tuk tuks, elephants, motorbikes, boats, landrovers, song taos and on my feet, it’s been one hell of a year!
They were, of course, punctuated with some lows. The crushing loneliness of being so far from home and the people who I’ve known all my life. The anguish when I wasn’t there to celebrate major events with them. The (particularly for me) scary feeling of no longer having a ‘life plan’. The worrying about people I love but being too far away to comfort properly. But I have learnt how to be alone and not let it crush me. I have fallen in love and not let the barrier of distance get in the way. I am learning to let go and accept the uncertainty of the future as a positive thing.
As I sit here, swinging in a hammock on a paradise island in Southern Thailand, I am mostly grateful for the people who have been there along the way this year. Thank you, my little corner of the universe.
