The Higgs is Found

48 years after it was predicted by Peter Higgs at Edinburgh University and 4 years after the LHC was switched on, it was announced today that they have found it. The Higgs particle. Arguably the most important breakthrough in physics for over a hundred years. Prof Higgs is a certainty for a Nobel Prize now.

He was still lecturing when I was at Edinburgh Uni doing theoretical physics and I chose his final year lecture course in Group Theory just so in years to come I could say I was lectured by him. Unfortunately he was a terrible lecturer! But a brilliant mind.
