Barter Books in Alnwick is one of the largest second hand bookshops in Britain. Founded in 1991, it is housed in the lovely old building that was Alnwick railway station. The main area where the tracks once were is now filled with shelves of books. In one area, a model railway runs around the top of the book shelves - see the extras!
It's also a lovely cafe and coffee shop and you can buy a coffee and bury your nose in a book whilst sat in one of the splendid old waiting rooms (there were separate rooms for ladies and gents in those days.)

For many years the station building was unused and forgotten, but its current occupants have done much to preserve the features of the building and once again it is buzzing with activity, and well worth a visit.
