Excitement.
It goes a bit like this;
Mr E.............Dad can I ask you for a favour?
Dad..............Two blips!
Mr E.............Can I borrow your golf clubs?
Dad..............Three blips!!
My beloved (unused) golf clubs And my shoes AND a pair of trousers AND AND AND............
Oh my word. I was in my thirties and having to save up for this lot. He just gets to use it at the drop of a hat.
Mind you, I enjoy his excitement. The challenge is on, he and his mates are facebooking each other, the bragging and mind games started in earnest around 8pm tonight.
We've been practising lining up shots and chipping in the garden.
It's such a laugh! At least my shoes get a clean and polish.
It struck me that this scene would be recogniseable to someone 50 years ago or more. Even the gleam in the eyes as the dream of the perfect swing, the huge drive, the long putt looms large in the mind.
It will be a different story on the course but it's good now.
Of course I encourage it, it's a great sport, it's sociable and it's fun. I hope the weather is good for them.
But they're my clubs, I paid for them and he gets to use them. Something is wrong here surely.
