Post Fordism

This photo is of what is left of the Ford works in Southampton, the site is shortly to be demolished. Southampton was home of the Ford Transit. This 44 acre site employed 4,500 workers in its heyday in the 70s and 80s but numbers were reduced to around 500 by 2009. it closed in July 2013 when the work that used to be done here was transferred to Turkey. It's a sad sight for what once was a major employer in Southampton.
