Whilst it might not do a bottom bracket much good to be briefly immersed in (albeit reasonably hill-fresh) rainwater, they do not celebrate such immersion by immediately starting to emit extremely foul-smelling smoke, producing an expensive-sounding loud rattle and ceasing to perform the function of helping the bicycle move, whereas brief immersion of whatever bits of the cars their drivers brought about when they forgot their vehicles' non-amphibiosity had instant and somewhat amusing results. A couple of taxis made it through unscathed and a big limo thing wheedled its way past on the footpath on the other side (presumably with the blessing of the polices who had also successfully trundled through) but most cars were giving it a miss and turning round when they approached from the Pollock direction, the road having already been barriered-off from the Scotsman end. Hopefully there'll be more rain like this tomorrow.
