Hard Times/Dark Days

It is not yet two of the clock
and thus the dark days continue.
Indeed, it would be a shock
if the sun was to break through
during the supposed daylight hours.

It would be like a generous smile
appearing on the face of Mr Scrooge
or hearing laughter from miserable Miss Havisham.
I’m sure there would be those who’d refuse
to believe such an occurrence  and take refuge
in the safety of their own homes.

‘What the dickens is going on?’ they would cry.
As would I.
