When the cap fits

Met up for dinner with a Singaporean friend with whom I did my LLM. He's now working as an academic at a university. When he first started he asked how many days leave he was entitled to. They said they didn't follow that system. When he asked what they meant they said that outside teaching weeks (about half the year) they didn't mind what he did or how he organised his time or where he was so long as he gradually built up a research record.

I sooooo want to be an academic.
