Power...........

This male mute swan powered along the lake this morning as we were watching a female and her 6 young feeding. We thought it was just coming to join them. What followed was a vicious attack on one of the youngsters, and was rather unexpected.

The yound bird seemed unable to get away, and eventually found a hole in the edge of the lake wall and hid it's head in there to stop anymore hard pecks to it's head and neck. The adult soon gave up and swam away. One of the youngster's siblings stayed close by and seemed quite distressed by what was happening, making calls to the bird being attacked. 

It was very strange behaviour as the swan starting the attack didn't make any attempts on any of it's siblings?
