Great titans of water vapour tower over Edinburgh as a formation of adolescent cumulonimbus bear down on the city.

Within an hour of this photograph the neighbourhood streets would become great cataracts; legion after legion of stupendous rain squalls swept over Leith, causing the gutters to flood the cobbles in as much time as it takes one to boil a kettle.
