Sharing
She has had her raspberry and now she keeps watch while her mate goes for a bigger one under the leaves. Her head is coloured with flax pollen.
I don’t mind sharing with the waxeyes. They take only what they can eat. Unlike the blackbirds that strip all the berries from the bush and leave the unripe ones on the ground. Sometimes I despair of getting any berries at all. However, I think I’ve found the answer at last. Before the red currants started to ripen and the berries were being torn off the bushes I had the idea of placing a transistor radio among them. Three days was all it took to put the blackbirds off.
