The Eve of Christmas

11 p.m., and our day is almost over. We went to a CHRISTmas eve service at our church, took some cookies over to Merrick so that he could leave them out for Santa, and made our scrambled egg casseroles for tomorrows family brunch.

I try not to dwell on it, but every time Christmas rolls around...I miss my grandma and my mom. For many years, when you walked in, Grandma was at the stove, frying up eggs in a cast iron pan. Plus...bacon and biscuits and gravy, and every kind of cookie known to man.

Eventually, my mother took over the brunch, and the good eating continued. Basically the same menu, and mom took a lot of time each year to get just the right gifts.

Nowadays, the brunch continues, but only Merrick gets any gifts. As the saying goes...time marches on...but the memories of Christmas's past still linger.

This pretty barn is located halfway between church and home. A fine old barn, along with a nice farmhouse.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL...AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!!!
