Independence Day

Happy fourth of July from Rhode Island, the smallest State. Many scholars believe that the Revolution got it's start here when in June 1772 John Brown and a group of his followers burned and sank the British Customs schooner HMS Gaspee in Narragansett Bay. A series of conflicts ensued in the Colonial New England area in response to the British attempting to take the perpetrators to England for trial. These culminated in the battles at Lexington and Concord and the rest is history.
The spot in the photograph is close to the area where John Brown and his men left to attack the Gaspee.
